ADmazing Coupon Book: Money in Your Pocket & For the School

I'm not a coupon clipper so having the ADmazing Savings book is perfect for me. There are deals on kid-friendly restaurants, clothing stores, grocery stores, hair salons, theatres, ski hills, indoor activity centres, and more.

Do you need an oil change? Check the book for savings!

Do you have some art (maybe your kid's school work) worth framing? Check the book for savings!

Does everybody in your house need new winter boots? Check the book for savings!

Do you want to go play laser tag with your kids? Check the book for savings!

Or better yet, does your family want a quick getaway to or away from the snow? Check the book for savings!

This year when you purchase an ADmazing Savings Ticket Pack you also get access to the mobile app for free. This means that checking for opportunities to save got even easier and you're never without your book. I usually leave mine in my car for this exact reason but now I'll easily double check for discounts before making a purchase throughout this upcoming year.

$10.50 from every book sold goes back to Hawkwood School through the Friends of Hawkwood School Society.

This is a huge benefit as all money raised goes towards enriching the learning experience for our kids throughout their elementary years. Our kids will benefit from up-to-date technology, artists in residence and special physical education programs, and not to mention busing for field trips.

In addition, all students who return order forms are entered into a draw for prizes. This is a win-win-win fundraising initiative for Hawkwood School.

We thank you for your support!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Friends of Hawkwood School Society via email.

Happy shopping and happy savings!

Volunteering & Fundraising IMPACT Infographic

"Use a picture. It's worth a thousand words." And so we have. Below is an infographic that depicts our volunteering and fundraising efforts and their impressive impact on our school community.

Let your eyes do the talking and give yourself some kudos!

A New Council Member + A New Bulletin Board = Hallway Art

Finding the best ways to communicate with Hawkwood School families is always a priority for School Council and Society. This year we're excited to be using one of the bulletin boards that's right in the school's entryway; a higher traffic zone for kids and parents alike.

Our new Secretary, Kim D., already started to put her creative talents up on the wall over this past week. Here's a peek at what you can see when you come for a visit at Hawkwood School:

Throughout the year Kim will update this board to list "feature presentations" and "up 'n coming" school events. We hope you find the new Council & Society bulletin board informative and useful, and even fun to look at!

Halloween Family Dance: A Spooktacular Night Is On Its Way

Dust the cobwebs off of that tickle trunk and get ready to dress up for Hawkwood School's Annual Halloween Family Dance. This is the one time in the year where we get to move and groove with our kids in the school's gym.

The dance is being held on Thursday, October 25th from 6:30-8:30 pm.

Tickets for this special event and fundraiser are $5/person in advance when purchased through healthyhunger.ca (the deadline to order online is October 20th) or $6/person at the door.

ROARRR!!!
This evening is full of fun activities, dancing to great music, admiring costumes and enjoying some concession treats. All concession items are $1 each, so bring your loonies and toonies!

Please note:

  • All children must be supervised by an adult. Children arriving at the dance without a supervising adult will be turned away at the door.
  • Please consider leaving coats and personal belongings in the car as space is limited.
  • Make sure to wear your favorite costume, however, no weapons please.

Volunteers are always welcome
to help with set-up, ticket & concession sales and clean-up. Check out the online sign up >> click here to see if there's a 45 minute time slot that works for you.

Casino Volunteer Opportunities: This Fundraiser Needs You

Once every year and a half, we get a chance to put in volunteer hours (over the course of two days) at Cowboys Casino and in return our school raises over $ 65,000. This fundraiser simply can't be beat and is not possible without the support of the parents and guardians at Hawkwood School.

This year our casino dates are Saturday, November 17th & Sunday, November 18th

Since we made the first call out for volunteers, we have filled over 35 spots - wow and thank you to those who have volunteered!

We do need four more volunteers for Sunday evening. The roles up for grabs include: General Manager, Cashier, and even Back Up/Reserve just in case.

To view details about the volunteer opportunities and to sign up, please click here for the online sign up sheet.

(UPDATE: Currently all volunteer positions have been filled. Thank you to everyone!)

Training is done on-site and no previous experience is necessary. This truly is a fun volunteer experience. Most who sign up become repeat volunteers in subsequent years because of the easy and fun factor.

Generally, you can't put a dollar value on volunteer time as it's invaluable. However, the impact your time has when helping out at a casino can be summed up as follows:
  • A single volunteer shift brings in about $1,750 to benefit the students at our school.
Without a doubt, this is time well spent.

Come join in on the experience and feel good about raising money for Hawkwood School. In the past, the funds raised have gone towards ensuring that technology (SMART boards, laptops, iPads and software) is both available for students and up-to-date.

This year's "Wish List" for the casino funds include:
  • Classroom Technology - laptops, iPads, & video equipment
  • Field Trip Transportation - busing
  • Artists in Residency - dance, drama, math links
  • Naturalization Project/Area - south side (front) of school
To gain insight on the impact volunteering and monetary donations have on our school, check out our blog post with an Impact Infographic. >>
